So how does a long time Harley rider rate the new Pan Am mega dirt squirter? Pretty good, even if there's more tech than a 747 - here's Roothy's quick ride review - there's also a fuller report in HEAVY DUTY magazine, Australia's best source of HD related information.

roothy.com.au 2024 Harley tourers - old rider's opinion - ROOTHY CHECK AMCN magazine for the full yarn - Righto, as an old Harley owner I figured it'd be good to see what the new ones are about. Came away seriously impressed - Harley-Davidson is alive and well, the local (Pacific region) management team is very switched on and the bikes themselves have so many good things to offer that Harley's...

roothy.com.au I've had a lot of trips through the Top End over the years, everything from that first lap of Australia forty years ago on an ancient BMW road bike with knobby tyres to towing a luxury Golf caravan with a, heck, ptui, Nissan GU. They were all great. But this one was a corker for a bunch of different reasons. First off, we went to Laramah and indulged in a bit of pub gazing. This w...

Rooth family's Mahindra outback camping trip.
In australia its failed . No road service ,no parts availability. Less power . 79 series she cant take her place
These are Ukrainian now, have been for a long time. I'm halfway through getting a 750 side valve mongrel back on the road so I can cart my wolfhound around.
Marvellous 🎉❤
You had the rack the correct way when you first put it in. It may have worked for you but the idea is for it to be elevated from the botton pan so the smoke gets underneath as well. I'm a vetran Nipper Kipper enthusiast so I have credentials! 🧐😅 I mean you were burning the freaking plastic table so i hope you've gotten the hang of it after 7 yrs 😂
Neverdid get the hang of it and found so many things I coiuld do better that eventually it landed in the bin. But what suits you is what;s important - on ya mate.
titles a bit misleading, i came to see an offroad trial of the calcutta cruiser, and ended up watching a cooking show? should of saved that roast 15 minutes earlier- practically cremated it, brekkie looked good though
yer i dont know i remember harlys fom twin cam years i need more convinceing i guess folk like you say anything for the money
Money? From Harley?? what planet are you on son??
I wonder if this is a one off build by Ryebuck Engineering or can it be ordered with a new vehicle from next door? Pay the cash and pick your new MSV up in a few weeks?
I reckon if you ask they'll deliver - and it';; be a true custom!
I could see the trailer being used to carry a 2WD Ural.....Hmmmm....the Handbrake is so lucky to have a great man who can cook....bless you both.
You and the bike do not match. The bike looks a little ridden but your jacket is free of bugs and just typical weathering. Your boots are nice and clean and so are both your pant legs. Your helmet tells me you are not a long distance rider much less an adventure rider. Someone is trying to give an impression and not tell the truth.
You have no idea who John is in relation to the motorcycle industry in Australia. Google him and then delete your post.
@@tonkaturbodiesel Motorcycle Industry does not mean he is a rider. Salesman yes, rider no. Kangaroos bounce, they don't ride. Australia has beautiful women but try going from Tierra Del Fuego to Dead Horse!
Mate, have you evr dressed for a photo shoot? No - and don't tell me I'm not a rider, obviooudly you haven't been around the last forty years - while I ran bike mags, tested bikes and most of all rode the shit out of them.
@JOHNROOTHROOTHY the rest of us know who you are, John.
Kim and his dad, awesome to see father and son living their life. The dad is like 80 and son thereabouts. But didn’t see any women there.
Cant wait to see you hit the tele track in the wet, haha roosting in 3rd gear on the clay 😂. Good review... looks a great bike 👍🍻
I'll be taking my DR650 up the Cape next time, just like the last time! Place for everything eh???
The best excuse to have more bikes... one for every occasion, haa . Be looking forward to that video john .cheers 🍻
I test rode the Pan America and it literally fell apart around me…. 👎🏻
Not bad, Roothy👍🏾 I've seen MDB Danny Hayes take that for spin a cuply years ago. I'd prefer the KTM 1290 myself. Cheers
I’ve used the GP product (Lanox) for over 15 years and swear by it for the rust prevention. I have also applied it to a sacrificial pin that drives the propellor on my pedal kayak. It’s made of high carbon steel so rusts at the smell of sea water. Its actual function on my kayak means it’s in the sea water every time I go out to kayak fish. I sprayed the HD stuff (Lanotec from the spray can) onto it two years ago and that pin hasn’t rusted or been re-coated since. It looks brand new. I swear by the qualities of both the GP and HD stuff!!
Saw a video of Pan am being made in Thailand. That might be an improvement.
Good review mate,but like you,potatoe,potatoe.
Your not old Roothy, you were born that way mate , been a fan of yours for years mate, shit! that means I'm getting old too. Cheerio Mate, good to see you out and about., on a Harley.
Harleys are pathetic
👀🤙
Sounds shithouse.
They have put that engine in a relatively light weight and small package Roothy! Should test ride the Sportster S... Same motor with a slight tune change I believe. Have heard they are a rocket of a thing for a little banger
Saw an electric Harley I thought what the.........not keen on electric at all ........ this Pan Am looks sweet as.. 🇦🇺🇺🇸👍 like this a lot plus the fact it's made in the USA and Petrol engine.
Arr electric, now there’s innovation, forward thinking and technology, and a quiet Harley finally…😆
@@FarqueKnowsWhere not keen on electric Harley at all, only travel 100k or so the battery needs a recharge then
I have the GSA1250 and absolutely love it…..I do like the look of the pan america though, great review mate.
My mate sold his GS1250 for a Pan and said he loves the new bike
Love your content Roothy. Will you do any more on the Ural ?
Onya Roothy!
Thanks for the video. Just saved me a shift ton of work ;-)
Hey Roothy, do you know what episode features the white Nissan Patrol hitting the stump and tearing off the rear axle?
Whooeee - not off hand, in fact it might be a Graham dvd maybe? Don't remember that one on one of myn trips. Sorry
Onya Roothy!

Bean watching John rooth for many years at this point he was part of the family. Then when he had this roll over with his wife in the car . Then made us wait a week or two to see if she was OK,did it for me is was so obvious it was about the ratings sad .Lost a lot of respect for him at that moment
Oh, not sure we planned it that way but it's not always me on the control stick here - getting good at rolling things tho... thanks for your comments.
It looks great, but I have misgivings about the weight, especially when everything for a trip is loaded up. I carry no more weight than is absolutely necessary. But, I am a very basic traveller, swag, tuckerbox, water, fuel, tools and spares. Not even an Esky.
Yep, my biggest issue always - weight! This isn't that bad and is part of my testing the Mahindra anway I reckon although got a feeling we might pull the roof topper for a Cape trip - you' re rioght, simple is always bhest. The stuff some people take......
Hello, I have a Fj60 from 1983, it comes with a 4th gearbox, I have seen a Toyota 14B turbo engine, I would like to know if the 5th gearbox of this engine is compatible with the transfer of my FJ60, or in any case which ones are compatible
OK, not5 sure - I swapped in a 13BT turbo but used the old 4 speed bellhousing and transfer - ask the Mr Landcrsuier boys, and speak to Richard. Good luck! Excellent motor the 14BT
where do I find that nice light bar mount?
Sorry, too long ago - I thinki it's opposite lock?
Lovely ep and places and cook ups, Love the new 4wd and set up.
Today I just got one Lc100 model 2004 I'm a very good condition but petrol engine 2UZ FE 116000 miles on it 🎉in Venezuela
Thanks for the great summary of the off road maxi of the Trailhawk! I own one too with the 5.7 liter and love it! Have all the packages the company offers and decided on if over others because it does it all and more and is reasonably priced to boot!
Yep, excellent vehicle with lots of stomp!
Any colour, as long it is black.
I took delivery about a month back Roothy Pac. I got the Efs prefered factory lift. Its early days but i wreckon this vehicle is a Gem basic robust thats what i wanted. I wreckon that engine is underated very torquey engine down low beautiful 6 speed box.
Yep, we've got 45,000k now and still running like a clock. Love it
Use it on leather boots lads.
we miss you on 4x4 show mate not same i dont watch it no more its crap now
Thanks mate - but the world's a different place anyway eh?
I've bought one a StreetGlide 2024 model... and yes it's fantastic
Always love a Roothy cookup. Hey mate I saw Milo 2 last weekend at the Townsville show. She was there with the Terrain Tamer boys. Good bunch of lads.
Yep, she sure went to a good home!
Except ground clearance
Yep, they're sweet and fancy. But, when it quits in the middle of nowhere, you'll be gittin yer Iphone out to call for a tow. You likely won't be able to get it back on the road yourself and it can take Harley weeks to figure out what in the tech went wrong. (Been there, done that. Once too often) Keep yer ol ride handy, you may need it! Bought my first Harley in '78 and have been through literally dozens since. The best ones are bikes ya build yourself! I'll be trusting my '94 Evo over anything much newer. ✌😎
Heyho mate - fair comment, it's easy to love something you can give back if it goes wrong. I'm keeping my old Evos too.
I met glen years ago just as a kid And funnily enough we met him in my dads jackaroo Wonder what he’s up to these days
Dunno, but I reckon it'll involve going quick somewhere - he loved driving.
youve sold your soul mate
Yeah, I sure hate being comfortable now I'm old and still gpoing bush....
A John wonder if you ever talk to graham Harris about your mahindra ,he had a bad run,now he sold it,I reckon some time a lemon come of the shelf like bad fruit from a tree.
Yes, I know Graham and he's a good bloke with a lot of machine experience. He did have a bad run, hopefully a lemon - which can happen with anything,
Bloody awesome job, great colours, good set up,plenty of people want to copy this design,my hand up for sure, good on you rooted .
Yep, huge thanks to Ben at 4WD Industries/Ryebuck for his input - brilliant result.
Awesome and outstanding as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Yeehah! Thanks mate - cheers
